The Worst Times To Book Local Moving Services (So You Can Avoid Them!)

When it comes to relocating your kids across the country, it isn't always easy to streamline things. In addition to having your kids wrap their minds around the fact that they will be leaving friends and their old school, you might also have to introduce them to new ways of doing things. However, with a little preparation work, things can be a lot easier. I wanted to create a blog all about improving your next move, especially if you have a family. Moving is something that is a consistent part of your twenties, and possibly your thirties, too. Move out of the house and into a dorm, move out of the dorm, move into an off-campus apartment, graduate and move into your first apartment, maybe move back in with your parents when your job does not pay enough, and then move back out again. If you get married, you move even more as your family grows. If you are somewhere in this long line of local moves, here are the worst times to book local moving services so you can avoid these times and have an easier time moving.

The Last Day of One Month and the First of the Next Month

Everybody and their monkey's uncle moves on the last day of one month and the first day of the next month. If you wait too long, all the movers in the area are booked solid. Even if you manage to get a truck to move, the inner-city traffic is a nightmare while people park the trucks on the streets and move things in and out of apartments. If you can arrange it, see if your new landlord/lady is willing to let you move in on the fourth through the eighth day of the month instead.

Right Before Major Holidays

Moving right before Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving are also bad. People are stressed, frantic, excited, and excitable all at the same time. Traffic is even worse than at other times because people are trying to get out of the city to see family or into the city for New Year's Eve parties. If you know you absolutely have to move in November, December, and the first part of January, see if you can do it at least two weeks before each holiday, or, as is the case with Christmas and New Year's, a month beforehand.

Beginning of June or September

School and college ends in June and begins in September. Millions of kids and young adults are moving about, trying to get to school or matriculating into college. Parents who drive their kids to school are crowding the streets, and college students are trying desperately to park as close to the dorms as they can so that they can get their stuff to their rooms. Everybody is trying to avoid being hit. Mornings and late afternoons are the worst. You could try and move during early June or September, but avoid doing so before nine in the morning and after three in the afternoon.
