Moving Overseas? Tips For Using A Moving Container
Are you going to be moving someplace overseas that you can't reach with a moving truck, such as Hawaii? The best way to move is going to be by using a container moving service. This is when a container is dropped off at your home, you load it up with all your belongings, and it is picked up and delivered to your next home. Here are some tips for using your moving container to ensure things go smoothly.
Pick The Right Delivery Spot
The process starts with having the moving container delivered to your home. Since it needs to be set down in the right place, you'll want to make sure that you have a flat surface to place the container on with plenty of clearance for the truck to drive up and place the container, such as a driveway. If you don't have a driveway, you can also place the container in the street as well. You'll have to do more walking to get to the container, but it might be your only option.
Have The Right Moving Supplies
You are going to need quite a bit of moving supplies. Since you're moving overseas, you often can't exactly rent the stuff from a local moving supply company and then return it when you are finished. In addition to having the standard boxes and tape, you'll need to have plenty of moving blankets to wrap your large furniture with. Moving blankets can be secured in place using tape or plastic wrap. This will prevent those larger furniture items from being damaged during the move.
Load The Container Correctly
The best way to pack a moving container is to do it section by section. Imagine that you are building a wall at the back of the container, and you don't move forward until the first wall is complete. Your large furniture items are going to be the base of each section. You'll want to position furniture properly so that they take up the least amount of space, potentially turning some things sideways so that they fit best. Look for hooks on the inside of your container. You can use nylon straps or rope to create additional barriers between each wall and provide support.
You can fill in the gaps between the large furniture with boxes and smaller items so that things fit tightly. Just make sure that you place heavy boxes on the bottom and lighter boxes towards the top. As long as you build the next section to the top as well, you won't have to worry about things shifting around in the moving container.
